Hypnagogic Traces

Hypnagogic Traces lingers in the quiet space between waking and sleep, where thoughts drift and intertwine. Gentle, shifting harmonies create subtle tension, carrying the mind downward. Sparks of awareness momentarily lift the haze, like wandering thoughts interrupting the descent. Melodic fragments emerge, weaving through the texture as consciousness drifts and relaxes. The music gradually settles into a slow, breathing motion that fades into rest. The piece features quartal-based harmonies, chromatic chordal motion, and Dorian-inflected melodic lines. These elements contribute to the meditative, drifting texture while remaining playable by a standard Grade 3 concert band.
