Score and parts. Flanders Quartet Edition Vol. 6. This quartet, commissioned by the Flanders Quartet, includes SATB, SSTB, ATBB, TTBB and BBBB movements. The players are challenged to imitate the home-grown music of each continent: in the Africa movement, the players must use their hands, knees and feet as percussion; in the Asia movement, the recorders must sound like shakuhachis; in the South America movement, a Bolivian pan flute style is required; and in Oceania a digeridoo effect is called for; in the Europe movement, a baroque sonata is in the air; and jazz resonates through the North America movement.
