This collection of hymn arrangements combines two of my musical influences. In my youth, I was drawn to the serene, improvisatory quality of new age piano music playing on our family's stereo, and the pieces I learned in this style, as well as my own improvisations, were frequently requested by family and friends. Later, as a professional musician playing and directing for churches, I became familiar with the many wonderful melodies created and adapted for congregational song.
 The collection began with my adaptation of "Going Home," the spiritual based on the Largo movement in Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9. While not found in many hymnals, I have played it myself at memorial services, and hope others will be uplifted by it in a similar setting.
 On the whole, the soft dynamics lend themselves to an intimate performance setting, but for service playing I might project the sound more as needed. I hope you enjoy playing these arrangements as much as I did creating them!

The World Needs All of Us

"We journey home, the place unknown, but when it's found the heart will sing." This comforting text about companionship uses imagery of sailing on the ocean as a metaphor for life's journey. An unforgettable melody and expressive accompaniment makes this a piece you will want to share with all of your ensembles. Available for SATB, SAB, and SA voices with piano accompaniment, or chamber instrumentation of flute, oboe, percussion, harp, piano, and strings (3.3.2.2.1). Please note the chamber orchestra piano part is different from that in the SATB score.

The Heart Will Sing

In a conducting class one day, we sang through a choral setting of a
  setting of Christina Rossetti's Remember, filled with beautiful, lush
  harmonies throughout. The lesson of the day was that this was a
  "bad" setting, ignoring the meaning of the text. I then sought to
  produce a more faithful setting that explores the themes of pain and loss
  expressed, keeping in mind Rossetti's struggle with depression. While I end
  the piece with an uplifting tone, the journey to get there explores a wide
  range of emotions expressed by subtle shifts of harmony, dynamics, and tempo.
  This piece was a finalist in the 2015 Ithaca Choral Composition Contest,
  performed by Anthony Maiese and the East Lyme High School chorus.
