Iditarod

Iditarod, named after the 1,000-mile Alaskan dog race, is a highly energetic work that explores the power and timbral possibilities of the wind band. Emphatic, tutti chordal statements are in conjunction with more subtle demonstrations of individual instrumental color in an irregular and spontaneous display. The steady middle section, being a darker mood, is more melodic and regular until it is swept up in a swath of tones, bringing us back to the exciting and bombastic finish.
