"i'm taking you to the sun" is a composition that explores the thrilling and perilous journey from Earth to the Sun. The piece opens with a serene introduction, evoking the calm, weightless sensation of floating in zero gravity. From there, the music erupts into a burst of energy, mimicking the rapid acceleration toward the Sun. Staccato, accented melodies from the soprano and baritone saxophones drive the momentum forward, accompanied by intricate compound time signatures. In the middle section, the alto saxophone introduces flowing scalar passages, painting a vivid picture of distant stars and planets passing by. The piece then builds to a climactic return of the syncopated, energetic melody, concluding with a simple yet powerful ending that brings the listener to the Sun. "i'm taking you to the sun" was originally composed for the University of Texas at Arlington Saxophone Choir.
