Imagine

John Lennon's "Imagine" is arguably one of the most beautiful and inspirational pieces ever written. As a lifelong fan of the Beatles and the solo work that followed the band's break up, I was inspired to compose a trombone quartet that preserved the message and intent of this Lennon classic. The original theme and harmonic structure are held intact at the introduction but are soon after enhanced through the use of development, reharmonization, textural devices and counterpoint. The intent was to make this arrangement interesting, fun and challenging to play for the trombonists. In addition to maintaining steady tempo, careful attention should be paid to blend, balance and intonation. The underlying subdivision and sensitivity to line, articulation and texture are equally paramount to this arrangement. "Imagine" for trombone quartet is accessible to high school, college and service band level trombonists and would be an excellent showcase for concert, festival or competition. Run time is 3:58. Tuba can also be utilized in lieu of bass trombone.
