"Impromptu No. 6 for Violoncello and Piano" is the sixth in a set of one-movement works for cello and piano from American composer P. F. Strohm. Unlike the first five impromptus, this is a Medium level of difficulty student solo work that still demands tone, technique and musicality. Its passages highlight numerous skills essential for a developing student cellist such as string crossings, a variety of articulations, sustained crescendos and decrescendos, sudden dynamic changes, shifting tonal centers using accidentals, and so on. These are all in the context of a dramatic opening, assertive main theme, and a delightful development. It is an outstanding student work for contest, concert or recital. Performance time is 6:08. Member, ASCAP.
