Bruce Faulconer composed INTERFACE I, for Amplified Piano, Percussion (Two Players), and Amplified String Quartet in 1975 at the University of Texas at Austin, while working on his Doctoral of Music Arts Degree. He completed this final manuscript copy at that time as well, by hand, using vellum and India ink. Interface I was accepted into the Gaudeamus Foundation (Netherlands) as one of thirteen participants in the world-wide submissions for 1978. It was first performed in Utrecht, Netherlands, on September 9, 1978, during Gaudeamus Music Weeek1978 in the Cathedral in Utrecht. The Gaudeamus String Quartet participated in the performance also with musicians from their chamber instrumentalists.
INTERFACE I is set for Piano, Percussion (Two Players), and String Quartet. The Piano and Quartet are amplified. The difficulty level is suggested for performance by advanced High School, College, and Professional instrumentalists.
