Interlude in modo antico, Op. 15, No. 3 by Alexander Glazunov, arranged for SATB Saxophone Quartet. Glazunov wrote the Five Novelettes during the mid-1880s. This piece is the third movement of that work. Interlude in Ancient Style (Interludium in modo antico), is a set of variations on a somber Russian hymn tune. A brief fugue-like section provides some contrast.
This arrangement is in the original key. It prominently features the Dorian mode with some modulations into other keys. Each of the saxophone parts spans a wide range. Other than the range, the piece is quite straightforward. A good challenge for intermediate level players.
