Intrepid

Suggesting a journey fraught with peril, Intrepid features lyrical melodies played over a churning, bubbling accompaniment. Three-bar phrases in the opening theme give the piece an urgent, breathless quality. The technique focus is on bowings and articulations, particularly zeroing in on dotted rhythm hooked bows. In some passages, the cellos split into divisi parts, giving more advanced players the opportunity to play in upper positions. The upper cello divisi part may be omitted at the discretion of the director, as the notes are covered in the violas.
