Ivalina

Composed in 2008, Ivalina is an intimate and radiant tribute dedicated to the composer’s wife and the love of his life. Structurally, the work adheres to the traditional form of the Puerto Rican danza, maintaining the elegance and rhythmic integrity of the genre. However, the composer infuses this classical framework with innovative harmonic textures, providing a sophisticated, modern perspective on the island's national style. Beyond its Puerto Rican roots, the piece draws specific inspiration from the Cuban contradanza, a soulful gesture honoring Ivalina’s Cuban heritage. This romantic and captivating work is defined by its "splendor of colors" and a vibrant amalgama of syncopated Antillean rhythms.
