Jacaranda is a very tall tree with a purple bloom native to South America. This tree lines the streets of Buenos Aires, considered by many to be the birthplace of the Argentinian tango. Scored for flute, clarinet, bassoon, and piano, this original tango has two main sections: a passionate and animated section that clearly states the rhythms associated with the tango followed by a contrasting, more wistful romantic middle section with Cuban habanera elements from which the tango is derived. The piece returns to the first section for its conclusion. Wide dynamic contrasts and heavy accents along with legato and staccato phrasing provide melodic and rhythmic interest. In concert C minor with the middle section in C major. Duration c. 4:40.
