The idea of the butterfly effect explores an interesting concept: the
  smallest actions or decisions, like a butterfly flapping its wings, can cause
  a series of events that can drastically impact complex systems. This theory
  perfectly describes the journey of my relationship with my dear friend, Gina
  Gravagne, to whom the piece is dedicated. The Butterfly Effect, written for
  viola and piano, encapsulates the loving, benevolent, energetic, and
  sentimental aspects of our friendship and further represents how our initial
  introduction has bloomed into the beautiful camaraderie that we share with
  each other and the future that awaits to be written.

The Butterfly Effect

Viola Solo

Commissioned by the Moody Center of the Arts, this short work for string quartet responds to Ghanaian artist Odili Odita's 2022 installation that brought vibrant colors into the spaces of Alice Pratt Brown Hall. Brimming with vitality and energy, Vibrant Reflections represents my sonic interpretation of Odita's artwork. The geometric and symmetrical elements, combined with the dynamic color palette in Odita's creation, served as the wellspring of inspiration for the music. This piece serves as a powerful reminder of the harmonious interplay between visual and sonic arts, a resonance that continues to breathe life into this work.

Vibrant Reflections

2 Violins, Viola, Cello Quartet

The inspiration of Shimmer! comes from a fascination with the natural
  behaviors of light. Physicists have observed the nature of light to function
  as a particle and a wave for hundreds of years. This wave-particle duality of
  light allows for some spectacular displays in nature, from the stars painted
  atop our night sky to the gradient wonders we receive before dawn. I chose to
  capture these breathtaking moments using the spectrum of sound colors from
  four cellos. 
    
    
    
    The foundation of the musical material for Shimmer! (2021) comes from an
  earlier work - written for string quartet - entitled Sparkle! (2020). One
  could view Shimmer! and Sparkle! as siblings to one another, similar in many
  ways - both retaining a sense of buoyancy and optimism. Still, each has its
  unique voice and musical contributions that reflect growth in my style of
  music. 
    
    
    
    Shimmer! reflects my optimism that has continuously been a beacon of light
  during trying times. Shimmer! reminds me that positivity can be a light in
  our life in the most natural form. I hope that this work will offer listeners
  a moment of reflection to consider what truly makes them shimmer!
