An expressive setting of The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), suitable for

    Originally written for choir and strings, this a cappella version was
  arranged during lockdown in 2020 and subsequently recorded by Inspirare choir
  at Stella Maris Chapel, Seatoun, Wellington in November 2020, conducted by
  artistic director Mark Stamper.

These three short piano Elegies were composed in 1992-93 in memory of
  fellow high school students who had died suddenly.

Three Elegies

Piano Solo

This piece was composed at age 15 in 1992, while I was at high school.
  
    
    It shows the influence of the French and Romantic-era piano works that I
  had been learning at the time.

Ballade

'Valse Nostalgique' piece is part of a cycle of works composed as the
  soundtrack to an imaginary documentary called The World of EugeIne Atget. If
  the film did exist, I'd like to think that this music would make a suitable
  accompaniment to the French photographer's haunting images.
    
    In 2005 I saw an exhibition of Atget's work at the San Francisco Museum of
  Modern Art and was captivated by his photos of Old Paris in the early 20th
  Century. He viewed his images as documents rather than 'art' but they are
  beautifully atmospheric and influenced the Surrealists.
    
    My recording of this piece can be found on the album Scenes Vol. 1 by

Valse Nostalgique (from The World of Eugene Atget)

Accompaniment to a Film Scene was originally written as a theme for a
  short film called Butterflies - a ghostly murder story set in the New Zealand
  bush.
    
    Ultimately I didn't end up composing the score, but I liked the theme so
  kept it filed away.

Of course, this GymnopeIdie was also inspired by Erik Satie who lived and worked in Paris around the same time as Atget (although I don't know if they ever met).
