This piece began as a part of a larger work for orchestra â Jig and Reelâ. This version is written for a young concert band. The melody is in the style of an Irish jig and is set in 6/8 in the key of F Major. The quick, lively tune is played first in the flute with reeds sustaining a drone, creating the effect of a fife with bagpipes. The melody is then passed to the clarinets and then to the brass. There is an alto sax feature with may be played as a solo or section soli.
