Pumpkin Spice is a fun song protesting the commercialization of pumpkin pie spice into "pumpkin spice" as a fall novelty. Singers have the option of telling pumpkin spice "just let me be" or declaring that pumpkin spice is "the spice for me." This is a great song for practicing musical interpretation skills such as tempo or style changes for different verses or lyric lines.

"Leaf Peeping" is my response to discovering that people pay to go look at the same leaves that are in their backyard. My mind is boggled. Then I went on a weekend trip to the mountains a few hours from my town. The trip happened to be during peak leaf color. I began to understand the appeal, sort of. Maybe. "Leaf Peeping" is a playful protest song that gives the singer opportunity to play with character changes.

Leaf Peeping

"A Gift to Us Was Given" is the Christmas story in four verses and a refrain. The verses are in D minor, offering peaceful joy as listeners contemplate the meaning of the words. The refrain, in F major, is a joyful response to the significance of what the verses tell. This new Christmas carol in a gentle 6/8 is arranged for be accessible to the average congregational choir, but sopranos have the option of celebrating with A5.

This lament is a responsive prayer arranged for cantor and congregation, choir and congregation, two singers, or any similar ensemble. It is written from the perspective of the Christian faith. Although written in response to the tragedies occurring from Hurricane Helene, the lyrics are generic enough to transfer to other times of communal disaster. This prayer of lament is intended to be used as part of a larger service and can be adapted to the various expressions of Christianity.
