<p>This composition follows a storyline of a Hero's Journey on his way to find and kill a dragon. The music takes you on a story of the Hero beginning his journey, getting closer to the dragon. Finding its lair, and eventually fighting the dragon. "Redemption" has a few instruments that can be played during the piece that are not found in the typical concert band. The air raid siren can be bought off amazon. It's a green hand-crank siren, it isn't too loud. The player can be any band member willing to do so. The player should start the siren soon after the winds cut off. The siren should start slow and quiet, gradually getting louder and louder. The conductor should bring in the percussion in measure 96 with the siren still going at its max volume. Then the siren should slowly die down in measures 97-98. The other instruments are Aztec death whistles, the first Aztec death whistle (regular death whistle found on amazon) may be played by any band member from measures 97-104 and 107-114. The second Aztec death whistle is a dragon whistle (found on amazon). This player (anyone in the band) may play it from measures 123-126 and 75-76. The flutes have "jet whistles" written in their part. A jet whistle is when the flute player covers the mouthpiece and blows a very fast stream of hair through the instrument. If nostalgia could be described in words, I would do that here. Although, I don't think words can do it justice.

When I think of nostalgia, I think of returning to my parents home. Driving down that road I knew so well, all the memories come flooding back. Memories of me playing in the street with the neighborhood kids, Memories of me and my sister in our yard, goofing around. Memories of my dog, who I loved so dearly.

The house itself is almost overwhelming with all the emotions I feel when I see it. I think that the nostolgia I feel when I see my old home is a happy sad, almost bittersweet.

I composed this my senior year of high school, when I knew I was getting ready to depart from my home, probably for good. So enjoy :)

<p>The Bermuda Triangle is an unknown region in the atlantic ocean where many vessels have gone missing. What is it like to cross through it? Why have so many ships dissapeared? "Bermuda" attempts to showcase what it would be like to journey through the treacherous triangle. Crunchy chords in the brass and deafening percussion will make your audience feel like they are aboard your ship. The chorale in the middle is the eye of the storm, then we are plunged right back into the chaos in an attempt to escape. As I was starting my composition journey back in my freshman year of high school, this was one of the first pieces I wrote. Since then I have done some edits, (thank goodness) but the core of the piece remains the same. My musical mind had different influences in high school, which you will hear in this tune. 

"Acclamation" is both a celebration of music and the people who create and enjoy it. I'm dedicating this piece to everyone who has helped me in my musical journey, whether that be teachers, mentors or fellow musicians.

Do you ever get shivers when listening to music? The feeling when music touches our soul, and it lifts us to another dimension. "Transcendence" is meant to capture that emotion, that all of us know and love. 

The first time I listened to Mahlers 2nd symphony, when the chorus comes in at such a quiet dynamic. I got complete chills all over, as a composer, I naturally had to write a piece based off of that feeling. 

Using a brass ensemble was an intentional decision, the sheer texture that soley brass instruments produce is mesmorizing to me. I believe that brass instruments have the best ability to have different, yet amazing timbres and sounds at all dynamic ranges. I explore that in this piece, trying to pry as many emotions out of the listener as I can.

Transcendence

My senior year of high school I took a short class that our student teacher for band taught during our homeroom periods. It was a composition class, as I was already a few years into composing, I naturally was compelled to take this and see what he had to offer.

Our main assignment was to compose a piece, of any style, instrumentation and length, based off of one of the paintings he provided us. I chose a painting of a house sitting on a countryside. There was green grass, lushes trees and other vegetation in the background, making this picture come to life. This painting really emulates inner peace every time I look at it, which made me want to write something serene.

I took this one step further though, not only will you hear the beautiful country landscape, but other things that I imagine would happen here. For instance a storm coming through, maybe even a tornado ripping things apart. The aftermath of the storm, and the yearning for those warm sunny days after rain and thunder.
