<p>A sacred work for choir and keyboard based on the writings of St. Catherine of Siena. Choirs will find this to be a fun challenge, featuring chromatic harmonies and polyphonic material. This piece was composed for the fiftieth anniversary of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish, Portage, Michigan.</p>

Fire of Love

SATB Octavo

Commissioned by St. Basil Parish in South Haven, Michigan, to commemorate the remodeling of the sanctuary. The church is built on a beautiful area overlooking Lake Michigan, from which the composer drew inspiration. References to the cornerstone, beacon, and light are referenced throughout the piece, in keeping with the location of the church building and with the spiritual themes of the hymn. The song is written in a simple style that should be easily manageable by most SATB adult choirs.

To God We Sing Our Praise

The poem "High Flight" was written by John Gillespie Magee, Jr., a pilot who was killed in a flying accident in Lincolnshire, England, during World War II. He completed the poem only a few months before his death. The musical setting attempts to capture the sense of flight and movement through rising, soaring gestures and a persistent feeling of propulsion. The only moments of stillness occur when the poet speaks of hovering, and again at the conclusion when he feels he has touched the face of God. This piece was commissioned by the Kalamazoo Singers to commemorate their 40th anniversary season.

A Voice of One

Instrument

Lux Luceat was commissioned by the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Wind Symphony and conductor John R. Stewart. The phrase Lux Luceat translates from Latin as "Let the light shine." This piece embodies a sense of optimism during dark and difficult times. While an overall sense of hope prevails, there are moments in the work where harsh reality intrudes. Two up-tempo A sections bookend a reflective B section that begins with a romantic theme that is transformed into a sullen dirge. The romantic element reappears before the return of the upbeat A section. The piece concludes in a hopeful spirit with light ultimately prevailing over darkness.
