I was approached by a friend to write a song for her terminally ill sister. The request hit me like a bolt of lightning at a time I needed a jolt. The friend and her siblings drafted a document highlighting all of the remarkable characteristics of their sister. The lyric is all references to her based on her siblings' musings while the chorus and concept of the song is the idea that each of us as a living person evolves and develops like a painting on a canvas that does not dry until we die and there are no more colors to add.

The piece begins with the familiar Latin poem featuring the sentiment carpe diem. The song is a fictitious story about a teacher who lost her newbie husband who was working on one of the Twin Towers on Septemeber 11th, 2001. The lyric decribes their accidental meeting and brief journey together. The chorus is her dealing with her feelings. The Latin text is split into two parts and bookends the piece. The Intro is the first half of the poem, "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero", which translates to "Seize the day, trusting the future as little as possible". The Outro is the second half, "Amor, vitae lumen, tenemus dum licet", which translates to "Love, the light of life, while we can hold it." My wife and I lived in Brooklyn when the September 11th attacks happened. While we did not know anyone lost that day directly we wept with the whole city. This song is a letter to all of the actual stories that were forever changed on that day.

This song is a gift to my wife and her obsession with Larry Kerwin from Black 47 and his XMRadio show, Celtic Crush. We have been listening on Sunday mornings for years and hope to make it onto one of the Celtic Crush tours of Ireland. This song is a thank you note to my wife for sticking with me.

The Greatest Day Ever

The subtitle of this song is "Bubblegum 4:44". It is a pop/rock song that is meant to be energetic and fun. The gist of the lyric is to capture in song the golden hours/days/weeks and months when you first fall in love. In that mindset you are not focused on anything negative that came before meeting this person and you cannot barely focus on anything else in your life because in that moment there is only love.

The song is a fictitious story about an actress caught in a coffee shop by adoring fans and how I helped her escape. I was in Los Angelos working on a potential musical using Fallout Boy music and I spotted this woman in the local coffee shop. She was dressed in post workout sweats and was looking melancholy. This song is pop driven "what if" trip through helping her escape her adoring fans when really what she needed was to be allowed to be a normal person alone in plain sight in that moment.

<p>A simple song with a message of empowerment and forward thinking. Why not grab opportunity but more importantly, get off the mat when we have been knocked down. We all get knocked down. Time to take one step at a time and move forward one step, minute, hour and day at a time.</p>
