"Alone in a World of Light" is a through-composed piece for
  orchestra that exhibits the natural feeling of wanting love and life in a
  lonely world that is constantly surrounded by light and happiness. This is
  Idio's contribution to mental health awareness as a composer, and is an
  accessible work that would put any listener in a serious and reflective mood.

Alone in a World of Light

Composed around the same time as the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, all notions of fear, pain, humiliation, and frustration, brought by political divide and racial prejudice, is portrayed within this heartfelt symphonic poem. Motifs of American hymns can be heard around the piece. And with a featured arrangement of "Amazing Grace" near the end, the composer reminds us here that we must also never forget the hope that one day we can lift our heads high again from the ashes of such dividing events.

Portraits of a Nation

Overture for Education is a compelling contemporary work suitable for a concert opener. It moves through a fanfare with an insistent force of melodies and a more majestic middle section that is meant to challenge the young musicians to go beyond their ordinary playing. This piece is a cry and a callout to a new generation of young musicians.

After the massive 22-minute composition for symphonic band called “Gaudi”, Joshua continues his journey into architectural-based composing with a sequel for wind ensemble. He emphasizes in music that we as a human race must surround ourselves with architecture that’s intimate and beautiful, that can bring us together, and embolden us to work toward the common good of others. Using the unique sound of the wind ensemble and the emphasis on harmonies of three medieval church modes, Joshua composes a serious lyrical work that advocates for the importance of architecture as a tool for our inner peace, comfort, and healing.

Bringing dreams and thoughts to life, Flight tells the story of one's journey through the heavens on a plane, from take-off, to landing. This exciting composition was written for the kind-hearted and spirited. We all need the courage to fly!

Flight

In this symphonic poem, listeners embark on a narrative that represents the scarier, mythic impression of the grim reaper. Combining commanding melodies with chilling orchestration, unique percussion, and asymmetric rhythm, the music exemplifies the darker notions of such soul-reaping presence, sadness, fear, confusion, and madness, in an attempt to understand the preconceptions of this daunting entity. And with the Catholic hymn synonymous with death, "Dies Irae", playing out in our mind, listeners are led by the hand towards a climactic end of this composition, as if we finally come face to face with the reaper itself. This is an excellent programmatic work for Halloween-themed and concert/contest performances.

Inspired by the beautiful hiking trails at South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, New Jersey, this beautiful tone-poem invokes the picturesque feeling of passing through a magical forest containing only the most majestic of scenery. Nature and music, both are magical.

  better way to start it off than with this great little piece for beginning
  band? With repeating melodies, ostinatos, and steady rhythms, this has all
  the fun of playing in an ensemble and the stylistic musical color of the
  composer.

  unnatural. Composed for the August 2017 Solar Eclipse in the United States,
  Totality depicts the full celestial event in music; from beginning to end.

Taken and revised from Idio's patriotic orchestra piece, Portraits of a Nation, this arrangement of the beloved 1772 hymn, by a former English slave-trader, attempts to highlight the sentiments and American values of faith and hope, with the well wishes of a people that hopes that a very divided country can once again find a middle ground, find some form of camaraderie, wash away the prejudice, and fill it with respect and hope.
