Just By Myself

This chart provides a wonderful backdrop for soloing and allowed Dizzy Gillespie to present a warm side of his playing, seldom seen during his prior recording sessions. Composed by Benny Golson in 1957, Just By Myself is a medium to bright swing chart beginning with the trumpet playing the melody and lead within the ensemble, then soloing. Additional solos are heard by alto and piano with ensemble backgrounds. This is the original version as played on Gillespie's recording and is fun to play and quite accessible for small groups. This is an outstanding performance and learning vehicle! Instrumentation: ATB saxes, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums and optional guitar.
