The text by poet Archibald Lampman (1861-1899) explores the feeling of  finding solitude amidst anxiety:                "O gentle sister spirit, when you smile my soul is like a lonely coral  isle, an islet shadowed by a single palm, ringed round with reef and foam,  but inly calm."

Commissioned by director Austina Lee at Air Academy High School on the campus of the US Air Force Academy (CO Springs, CO), the music resounds with the message of the youth of today: with persistence and confidence in who you are, you shall inherit the earth! SATB with piano.

Commissioned by KI Concerts for performance alongside the Mozart Requiem, "Lauda Sion" is an original SATB setting of an abbreviated form of the Latin text. It features big and bold sounds from the choir and instrumental ensemble, and was written to be the concert opener for its premiere in Vienna's Votivkirke.
