German composer Max Bruch (1838-1920) composed his popular Kol Nidrei, subtitled Adagio on Hebrew melodies, in 1881. Originally composed for solo 'cello with orchestra, it was also arranged by the composer for 'cello and piano, the version from which this transcription was taken. Familiar to generations of 'cellists as an excellent contest and recital piece, the dramatic, expressive character of the piece should allow it to take a similar place in the bass clarinet repertoire. With no requirements for virtuosic technique or extended range, this transcription would make an excellent performance piece for the young bass clarinetist.
