Kristallnacht, Op. 3

"Kristallnacht" is a challenging solo flute piece designed to show off the full potential of the performer and instrument. It explores a number of extended techniques, utilizes the flute's agility and contrasting registers, and features sharply contrasting juxtapositions in dynamics to achieve its effect. The piece is also a programmatic one, depicting an event of the greatest gravity.  The name Kristallnacht refers to a night before the start of World War II where Nazi stormtroopers carried out attacks on Jews living within Germany and parts of Austria.
