In 1838, Franz Liszt (1811-1886) completed a set of six of the most technically demanding piano études under the title ÉTUDES D'EXÉCUTION TRANSCENDANTE D'APRÈS PAGANINI, S. 140. Each piece was based on some of the violin CAPRICES and concertos of Niccolò Paganini. In 1951, Liszt revised the original version and retitled the collection GRANDES ÉTUDES DE PAGANINI, S. 141. ÉTUDE No. 3 is written in G-sharp minor and has been given the subtitle "La Campanella." Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) created concert arrangements of all six études between 1914 and 1921, completing LA CAMPANELLA in 1916 (BV B 68). Reprint edition.
