La Culebra

A traditional mariachi son except unlike most sones, which are characterized by syncopated rhythms and an alternation between 3/4 and 6/8 time, this is set to lively sixteenth notes in a rhythmic 3/4 feel. This C-major piece comprises three distinct sections in ABACA form. Changes to the dominant and relative minor add drive and intensity to the piece as the story of the snake encounter unfolds. Gritos (whistles and calls) are encouraged throughout the piece!
