Notes about this piece: Danza Puertorriquena is a musical form, dance, and genre from the 19th century in Puerto Rico before the island became a territory of the United States of America. Danza has 4 parts in its structural form: an introduction, a first theme, a second theme, and the chant of the baritone/trombone. The form ends with the repetition of the first theme at the end of the form. Danza was one of the first dances that people danced in couples touching each other bodies. So this kind of dance was very scandalous for Puerto Rican society. Danza became very popular for concert bands at the beginning of the 20th century when Puerto Rican musicians formed part of the US Army, and when the concert bands were introduced to Puerto Rico Public Schools. This arrangement is straightforward. It includes the guiro (please use the Puerto Rican Guiro with the fork scraper if possible). The orchestration is minimal, considering school programs that cannot afford expensive, specialized band instruments.
