Les quatre saisons

This short collection of 5 songs was composed by Norma Basso. It is based on poems by Maurice Careme. Chromaticism, tonal harmonies and spoken singing are intertwined. The piano part has a poetic function to introduce, accompany, stress the intonation, comment and help with the rhythm. The last song "Je ris, je cours, je chante" was added after the others. Norma Basso used the contemporary language in a spoken singing short introduction. She also added a modal part similar to the piano part of "Il a neige." It's a beautiful work to discover.
