Maybe Later is an original swing tune and can be played with varying
  amounts and kinds of instruments and a rhythm section. 
    
    
    
    The melody kicks off in the saxophones followed by a brass bridge and a
  solo section. The solo section has a written out trumpet solo and chords
  written out for other student performers to get their licks in too! Following
  an 8 bar brass trio, a DC al Fine gets the students back through the form to
  wrap up the tune.

Wuzzat Mean?! is a delightful little tune where students can cut their
  chops on some straight ahead blues improvisation! The title is also one of
  the most common questions I have to ask students when they speak
  "teenager." 
    
    
    
    Written in F, there are two solos written out for students in the baritone
  saxophone and the trumpet. Using those solos, the tune is completely
  presentable and would satisfy your listeners and students alike. Following
  the solo section, you can find a discussion between the brass and the
  saxophone section before returning to the main musical idea.

BeachComber's Groove is cool little Bossa Nova chart that can conjure up
  memories of sunsets, surf, sails and sand. The introduction sets the scene
  and then moves onto the first melodic sequence written on the alto saxophones
  and trumpets. All of the voices need not play at once. If students are
  comfortable, feel free to whittle the number of players down to one of each
  instrument or simply make it a solo. Saxes get a time to shine in a
  harmonized setting of the melody punctuated with trombones first and then all
  brass.
    
    
    
    The Bridge section is written in a major key suggesting sun, fair weather,
  warm temps and new adventures before returning to the original groove. The
  solo section can be opened up for anyone, however, there are solos written
  out for tenor sax and trumpet.

The Downtown Office is a medium tempo tune that bops along with a happy melody suggesting the promise of opportunities of a new day in the city. Following the 32 bar solo section, the band moves into a brief section with musical lines built over one another that builds and eventually resolves back into our original melody which eventually concludes with a Basie style ending.

There are chord symbols in each of the traditional instrument parts and a written out solo in the second trumpet part that can be used in a pinch.

The Downtown Office

BellyFlop is a fantastic tune that can start students off with little
  fear. Although this chart is played with straight eighth notes, it utilizes
  big band instrumentation and students may begin to become acclimated to
  playing in a smaller group setting with one student per part. 
    
    
    
    The rhythms in BellyFlop are not very demanding, however, syncopation must
  be addressed and its role in jazz music emphasized. 
    
    There are no solos in BellyFlop but there are several solis. This fact may
  serve the director as  jumping off
  point for discussing the importance of solos and improvisation  to jazz music.

"Funny Business" is a jazz/rock tune featuring a duet between
  trumpet and tenor sax and, later, alto and tenor saxes. There is a section
  for solos with two written solos and the changes for Eb blues in all wind
  parts. 
    
    "Funny Business" has a catchy melodic call and response that will
  have your performers and audience whistling at the end of your set!

Funky Nugget is, as you would expect, a funk chart with a groovin bass line and an equally hip melody. Saxes and brass trade that melody over two different fundamental chords and the trombones and tenor saxes take the group through the bridge and onto the solo section. 

The solo section offers a written alto sax solo but the chords are included so anyone can take a solo. The chords are relatively simple and combine with a "straight-forward" turnaround over the course of the solo section.

Funky Nugget is rhythmically challenging as it is grounded in 16th note rhythms throughout. It is a wonderful opportunity to teach students not to fear that 16th note patterns.  In addition, Funky Nugget can provide plenty of opportunities for students to apply the strategies and methods you teach them to decipher those rhythms.

One of my favorite jazz bands was the Count Basie Big Band. This
  particular chart is something that, Id like to think, the Count might pick
  for his group. 
    
    
    
    The GumShoe is a blues that begins with a simple piano solo that turns into
  a musical conversation with the sax section. As the tune develops, other
  sections begin joining the conversation which ultimately takes the band into
  a solo section. 
    
    
    
    There is a written out solo for trumpet, however, the changes are available
  for each wind instrument and the solo section is in blues form.

As soon as you climb into your first new car, there is a sense of power
  and independence, not to mention that new car smell!
    
    
    
    Cruisin Down Main was brought about simply by hearing stories of many of
  my students discussing their new (or more appropriately, new to them)
  vehicles.
    
    
    
    The tune begins with the rhythm section and a piano solo that may either be
  read off the page or improvised. The piano can be used to set up the tune or
  simply as an introduction for the rest of the tune. Either way, the melody
  shows up in full force at measure 9. A written solo in the tenor (trumpet or
  trombone) part glues the tune together. In addition, there is a solo section
  containing chords and two written out solos for alto and trombone although
  opening the section up is also possible and encouraged.

Heres one that can certainly liven up a program! 
    
    Off the Rails is an energetic latin flavored rock chart that gives players
  the opportunity to groove and can be enhanced with extra latin percussion
  parts and players. 
    
    
    
    Beginning with a forceful introduction from the lower voices, the opening
  melody kicks off in the altos and trumpets punctuated the second time by the
  lower saxes and trombones. Following the second ending, saxes take over with
  a smooth melodic idea which gradually adds each voice before moving into an 8
  bar repeated solo section. The solo section offers a written solo for trumpet
  2 and trombone 3 in modest ranges for middle school or high school students.
  Additionally, the simple chord progression used is ideal for young students
  to begin developing their own licks. 
    
    
    
    Get ready for high energy and a good time!!

Off the Rails!

Here is one I think everyone will really enjoy! 
    
    
    
    SuperHip Robot Showdown is a quasi-funk tune that grows out to a ostinato
  bass line. The tune builds through several different musical ideas featuring
  different sections of the band. This is certainly one of the more progressive
  charts and can be used as a palate cleanse from the usual fare in a typical
  set.
    
    
    
    There are two written 16-bar solos in the alto and trumpet but that section
  may also be opened up for others. 
    
    
    
    The sixteenth note subdivision is vital throughout the tune. The rhythms
  demand it!  I used it as a tool to help
  students decipher 16th note rhythms and help them to feel more comfortable
  with these notes and patterns.
