This piece is part of a larger work, "Mass of Our Lady of Good Counsel". It is a Psalm that speaks to the majesty of the King and His joyful triumphant entry. This piece can be performed with a choir with a pianist or with a 16 piece Chamber Orchestra. Adding an alto soloist to lead the choir can be very impactful for the listeners. When teaching singers how to perform liturgically this piece speaks to the singer as well as to the audience. In liturgy the singers lead the people as they "ascend the hill of the Lord" into his holy presence. The instruction from the psalmist is that in order to ascend we must have "clean hands and a pure heart".
