Light

The text is by Rabindranath Tagore, a native of Calcutta whose poetic songs were viewed as spiritual and mercurial, but not well known outside Bengal. The mystical and quiet opening gives way to triple meter, vivace: "Ah, the light dances." The piece closes with a reference to the opening texture, this time majestic and ecstatic: "Mirth spreads from leaf to leaf."
