"Listen, Child, to These Words" is a poem that I wrote in 2014, after my dear friends, Josh and Jackie, lost their mother to cancer. They were, and still are, practically like siblings to me. We all went to high school together and even lived together for a time. The death of a family member especially that of a parent is one of the most difficult life experiences. So, I wrote the piece in her memory, and as a comforting gift to them.
Originally performed by the Northwest Florida Student Vocal Ensemble (NWFSVE), a joint choir of students from Pensacola State College and the University of West Florida, at the tenth annual Pensacola ComposerFest in 2014. In 2023, I made slight modifications to the piece. It is now offered as a tribute to those in mourning. May the words and music contained within bring solace and tranquility to all who need it.
A band arrangement is also available.
