While Bruckner is chiefly remembered as a composer of at least nine huge romantic symphonies, he also invested much time in the composition of church music, having been a cathedral organist. This impeccable miniature (Locus Iste = 'This Place' [was made by God] was originally written in 1869 for unaccompanied choir, to be sung at the dedication of the votive chapel in Linz Cathedral. Bruckner composed several pieces for choir with brass accompaniment and of course brass features prominently in his symphonies. A new brass arrangement of 'Locus Iste' then, is very apt: ideal for religious services or a reflective moment in a brass concert.
