The inspiration for this setting came from the Gospel of John, chapter one, that describes the notion of Jesus being the Light that darkness cannot comprehend or defeat. This theme, combined with the Canticle of Simeon in Luke chapter two of letting go into the arms of the Light that overcomes all darkness, gives us all something to hold onto in times of need.
