Louis Armstrong's contribution to shaping the jazz style was incomparable, and it is important for today's aspiring jazz musician to study his phrasing and melodies. In the words of Miles Davis, 'The whole of jazz can be summed up in two names: Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong'. The Armstrong transcriptions in this collection, if sympathetically studied, should justify half of that assessment.
