Song of the Pima Nation in a florid SATB setting with alto solo and mixed ensemble accompaniment, composed of 1 flute, 2 violas and 2 cellos. This song was collected originally in the early 1900s by Natalie Curtis in her famous work "The Indians Book" (1907). This is great example of the musical arts of the first people of the American continent, portrayed in a captivating setting filled with harmonic contrast. Excellent for a skilled high school or collegiate choir.

Chuhwuht, or Song of the World, forms part of one of the Pima creation myths. In it, the Creator rolled the Earth using gum from the stick of a tree and shaping it round under his feet as he sung. The myth and the song were collected and transcribed by Natalie Curtis in the first edition of The Indian's Book (Paul Berlin Publications, 1907). This SATB setting offers an authentic atmosphere with occasional solos highlighting the lyric and spiritual experience of the rituals of the Pima tribes.

Chuhwuht

A subtle work for strings (Vln I, Vln II, Vla, Cello, Bass) combining rich, swelling harmonies with lyric melodic movements. The main theme of the piece utilizes Caribbean rhythmic  patterns displaying a playful, colorful orchestral palette. A very fun piece to play and listen to that can be performed by mid-level to advance players. This piece has a strong didactic content for teaching young string performers, and it is a sure audience grabber.

<p>La Pajara Pinta is based on a children song of the Dominican Republic where Mr. Rodriguez grew up, but this song can also be found throughout many Latin-American countries. The setting, dressed in fugato style, renders a unique pallet of vocal colors for choirs to display their ensemble skills. Historically, the original melody of the song varies by regions but the one used in this version is what children sang during the years of the early life of the composer (1960 – 1970). The lyrics also have many versions depending on the geographical area.</p>

La Pajara Pinta

Charming small concerto for classical guitar and strings. The first movement, "Canzonetta," presents in its slow tempo stylistic elements similar to those of famous Spanish concerto composers like Joaquan Rodrigo and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, but in an abbreviated form. The second movement, "Mangulina," is based on a popular dance form  developed between the 1930 - 1960's in the Caribbean islands. Its brisk tempo with syncopation in triple patterns is reminiscent of the Canarios of Gaspar Sanz. This Concertino can be performed by mid-level orchestras and a mid to advance level soloist. Ideal for talented high school and early college level students.

This SATB a cappella setting accents the exhilarating , celebratory, and gracious nature of the Native American Zuni culture. Traditionally, while the Zuni women ground the corn on flat stones called metates, it was customary for them to sing while performing their chores. On occasions where the harvest was plenty, women would invite their neighbors to help with the grinding, turning the chore into a celebration of friendship.
