Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis, for mixed choir (SATB) a cappella, was written for Peter Asprey and the Choir of Holy Sepulchre, London, the National Musicians' Church. The work was recorded by "The First Readings Project - J. David Moore, conductor" at Grace Episcopal Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 15, 2025.
This a cappella setting of the Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis contains no divisi. The canticles were written with the intention that they could effectively be sung by a small professional choir of eight voices up through larger community youth and adult choirs. The Soprano and Alto voices are used to deliver the text in the Magnificat (song of Mary), while the Tenor and Bass voices are used to deliver the text in the Nunc Dimittis (song of Simeon). You may perform both movements or decide to program just one of the two movements. They are appropriate for either a worship service (choral evensong) or the concert hall.
