When Miles gets a saxophone for his birthday, neither his parents nor his neighborhood can stand the racket. No one guesses what is in store for them, when Miles and his Swamp Band receive an invitation to play at the Alligator Ball. Host LeVar Burton introduces the viewers to Fred Newman, a mouth sounds performer. Fred makes amazing sound effects with just his mouth and playing all the parts of the instruments in the song Mama Don't Allow. LeVar then visits with jazz saxophone artist Earl Turbinton about creating improvisational music. Earl demonstrates how music can express emotion.
