A new setting of Philip Paul Bliss's text "Man of Sorrows! What A Name!" that's both contemplative and expansive. Designed for approachability and use in worship services and concerts, the choral writing makes frequent use of two-part textures and unisons while the piano handles the textural and harmonic interest. The last verse is set in a modified version of Bliss's original tune that carries a triumphant message of Christ's victory over death, and climaxes with the first and only statement in the work of "What a Savior!"; the work then ends contemplatively, signifying that while Christ's victory is assured, we are still waiting on earth for His return. An ideal anthem for Lent or Easter Sunday.
