Marching Through Georgia

This edition of Marching Through Georgia has been carefully adapted for todays Grade 3 concert band while preserving the character and spirit of John Philip Sousas original setting. To improve accessibility for developing ensembles, the woodwind parts have been edited to make technical passages more manageable for the performers. When the soloist bassoon parts have been cued into other instruments to ensure complete musical coverage. The original two Euphonium parts have been combined into a single part with occasional divisi. When only one euphonium is available, the performer may play either divisi line as appropriate. The original scoring for two Trumpet and two Cornet parts has been condensed into three Trumpet/Cornet parts, providing greater flexibility for modern instrumentation. Likewise, the original four Horn parts have been reduced to two parts while maintaining the harmonic integrity of the score. Additional percussion parts have been incorporated to provide greater color, rhythmic support, and musical impact while remaining stylistically appropriate to Sousas original conception. It is my hope that these editorial revisions will allow more bands to enjoy performing this classic march while remaining faithful to the musical intent and excitement of the original composition.
