Michael Harvey is proud resist the trend of the diminishing number of composer pianists, such as Liszt and Rachmaninov, Harvey has composed, transcribed and arranged an increasing oeuvre of over 100 works for piano. The techniques studied from this composition will facilitate the ability to study works of the highest level. I believe that the majority of students learning the piano would love to develop the technique of a super-virtuoso. This piece may be the missing link or step that can take a student from an advanced level to that same sphere. Perhaps this is the only way that a piece entitled The Tempest could logically appear: not a nightmare but a pleasant dream… a dream that can now become a reality! This piece was influenced particularly by Godowsky’s Etude No. 42 after Chopin’s Op. 25 No. 11.

Ludwig Van Beethoven needs little introduction. He was one of the greatest and most famous composers to have ever lived. Beethoven composed 26 short light instrumental pieces called Bagatelles. He wrote the Bagatelle in A minor on the morning of April 27th c.1810, dedicating it Fur Elise (for Elise), the name to which the piece is now commonly referred. Harvey chose to make this transcription for the left hand alone available, so that the now somewhat overplayed Fur Elise can be a new and rewarding challenge for all.

The Eccentric Piano Student is the second piece Harvey wrote especially for small hands. This student and his rebellious nature inspired me to compose a piece in the Neo-Classical style. The study of this piece contribute to a technique that can take a student’s ability from about Grade 3 to Grade 6 level.
