Manthe composed this number for his first wedding. It has a call and response motif switching between two manuals. The chorale is clearly stated using both hands on one manual.

Looking for a quiet Offering piece for Christmas Candlelight Service? This trio start with just the piano with its repeated rhythmic pattern in the left hand for the first stanza. The Organ is then added ifor stanza two using a soft string setting. Finally the flute is added in stanza three reminiscent of the angels singing on high.

Manthe has put this 2-part anthem in a 6/8 dance, but he includes an occasional twist of some 7/8 measures. The flute plays the intro,  stanza three, and the outro.

Werner Franzmann re translated the hymn Mude bin Ich (Now the Light Has Gone Away). Manthe composed a new melody and arranged it for SATB choir. The College Choir from Dr. Martin Luther College (New Ulm, MN) sang Manthe's arrangement a cappella as their closing number for the 1980 Easter tour. When Manthe sought Franzmann's permission to copyright his words with the music, Franzmann agreed to allow this. However, he did comment that he would always think of the old melody for his words. After all these years Manthe has wedded the two melodies into one SATB anthem along with a new piano accompaniment.

Matt Manthe has composed a new melody (Wundersames Kreuz) for this hymn. Stanza one is unison and an second voice part is added in stanza two. In stanza three he recalls Lowell Mason's tune HAMBURG but in a minor key. He adds an optional descant to the last stanza emphasizing the joy that is ours when we survey Christ's cross.

This work alternate between a solo alternate melody based on the hymn tune and the actual hymn tune (isometric). The hymn tune is presented on the non-solo registration. For use as pre-service or during the offering in services during lent.

O Sacred Head

In this Christmas number Voice 1 sings the main theme followed by Voice 2 singing a secondary theme. Then the two themes are sung against each other twice. The flute part (which is optional) has been added to the original. This song works well for large-group singing.
