Matthews Lullaby

Perry Brass wrote his moving poem, Matthews Lullaby, in response to the horrific murder of Matthew Shepard in October, 1998. But in stark contrast to the violence Matthew Shepard suffered, the poet chose to write a powerful message of grace and humanity. The musical treatment seeks to convey the full range of emotions portrayed in the text, with a setting for TTBB ensemble and piano that best suits performers at an advanced level. The piece is approximately 7 minutes long.
