This SATB a cappella work was written during a time of conflict in many parts of the world, similar to how we find ourselves today. Dissatisfied with much holiday music that failed to confront this situation, I wrote the words and music to this piece. In it I acknowledge that we often have little to go by to combat the darkness,  and that hope as an active force "is often all we have". And yet sometimes miracles occur and we must work to create them, including envisioning a peaceful world. This work has proved popular with many ensembles.

Our Wish This Year is Peace

SATB Octavo

This SATB a cappella work was inspired by the response to catastrophic flooding that struck Vermont in July, 2023. The outpouring of community support for the individuals, businesses and towns affected by the disaster inspired me to write the words and music to the work. It begins with questions about where to look for help and ends with the recognition that we are all in this together and that "our strength is our community". While the song was inspired by a specific event, the message, including the plea for increased ecological awareness and action, will apply to many situations.

This concert band piece combines a tradition wind ensemble style with more contemporary upbeat and swing sounds, including a percussion section break. It is suitable for advanced high school or university ensembles. The purchase price includes permission to make multiple photocopies of instrumental parts for each section of the ensemble.

Hoppin' John

This is a set of four songs for SATB unaccompanied chorus. The texts are poems by the late poet and playwright David Budbill that deal with nature and, in the final poem, the importance of Art in our lives. The works are suitable for advanced high school, college and community choruses.

A Solitary Voice

This arrangement of a traditional English Christmas Carol for SATB a cappella chorus uses different combinations of the women's and men's voices in an appropriately modal setting. It is suitable for high school, chorus and community groups.

This is the Truth Sent From Above

This set of three songs for SATB chorus and piano uses three wonderful poems about nature from poet Barbara S. Nielsen in interesting and accessible ways. The three songs, "Begin the Day", "Spring Lake" and "Garden's End" have distinct moods and are suitable for advanced high school, college, community or professional choral groups.

Time's Shadow

This five-minute work for concert band or wind ensemble combines a lyrical opening melody with a funk-driven middle section that emphasizes the percussion section. It then closes with a return to the opening melody, but this time in swing rhythm. It is suitable for advanced high school or college ensembles.

This is a set of three songs using the wonderful song lyrics from Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night": "O Mistress Mine", "Come Away, Death" and the final song in the play, "When That I Was". The outer songs are joyous and whimsical while the middle work is a lament for unrequited love. The setting uses either piano accompaniment or the original version with strings. The piano version can also be used as the choral reduction if the original accompaniment of string ensemble is chosen. The string parts have been made affordable on the understanding that if more than one player is used per part, the correct number of copies of each instrumental part will be ordered. This work is suitable for advanced high school, college, community or professional ensembles.
