The music of L. C. Harnsberger's Minimalisma for saxophone quartet is inspired by the minimalist composers such as Philip Glass and Michael Nyman while also drawing on the melodic inventiveness of Erik Satie. The piece begins with an undulating accompaniment while a slow and contemplative melody enters from silence, soaring above the other instruments while dynamically fading in and out. A more aggressive middle section highlights the low sonorities of the baritone saxophone before seamlessly transitioning back to the tranquil opening melody that gently fades away.
