"Minuet in A" is a short but very sweet piece for flute quartet. While composed in an early Classical style, it offers beautiful harmonies and chord movements that are beyond the Classical Era. It also offers contrasts in dynamics, articulations, and style while creating an easy opportunity to work on tone, blend, balance, and tuning. It is a great piece for beginner and developing quartets, but also a gorgeous light piece to program for an advanced group. Elijah Spadea wrote "Minuet in A" at the age of 18 and was inspired by nature, specifically the simple yet majestic beauties of the ocean and sky. While written for flute quartet, "Minuet in A" can be played by a quartet of clarinets, violins, trumpets, alto saxophones, or oboes too. If selected for an alternative group of instruments, it is recommended that the ranges be reviewed in combination with the skill levels of the players before selecting.
