The composer writes: "During the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, I decided to write down some of the melodies, phrases, and expressions that have come to me over the years. These melodies appeared when I was out walking, raking leaves in the garden, or enjoying summer days by the sea. The melodies evolved and grew and were clad in harmonies, a context, and lyrics. The final result turned out to be a Missa brevis, the short mass you are now holding in your hand. The different movements can be sung together on the same occasion, or one by one. This is how I picture the characters of the movements: Kyrie: prayer; Gloria: joy; Sanctus: pride and reverence; Agnus Dei: redemption."
