The evolution of the song Mo Ghile Mear as we know it today begins with a contemporaneous poem being married with an Irish air many decades later in the 1970s. Sue Furlong's setting for SSA choir, soprano solo, piano and optional bodhran perfectly captures the essence and meaning of the text. At once dreamlike, then agitated; sections of sadness and lament are contrasted by moments of exuberance and swollen pride the piece is a riot of emotions. With outstanding accompaniment music and beautifully crafted choral parts this is a piece that will be loved by choirs and audiences alike.
