The piece won the Shena Meeker Memorial Composition Competition (a national award) April 24, 1975, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra premiere performance took place during Mayfest in Fort Worth, May 2, 1975, with John Giordano conducting. The prize was also supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Texas Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
