Born in 1946, Richard St. Clair started composing at age 16, completed music studies at Harvard where he earned a PhD in composition. In 1969 he broke from the academic atonal style then in vogue and started writing in a neoclassical fusion style using both atonal and pandiatonic/tonal/polytonal elements.
